- Anna Karo, a longtime resident of Nucla, passed away May 25, 2003, at her residence. She was 61.
A graveside service is set for Thursday, May 29, 2003 at 10 a.m. in the Nucla Cemetery in Nucla, Colorado. Jack Willis of the Church of Christ, Independence, Missouri will officiate.
A visitation will be held in the cemetery from 9 a.m. until the time of the service.
Matilda Anna Soderstrom Nygren May 9,1922, in Nucla. She lived all her life in Nucla, except approximately one year she spent in California.
On April 6, 1939, Anna married Edward Karo in Telluride. They were blessed with seven children. Edward preceded Anna in death on December 13,1990.
Anna was a homemaker and a ranchers wife, who raised her children and worked hard growing large gardens and helping with the livestock and irrigation .
Anna and Ed were members of the Church of Christ. They attended a little log church that was formerly located where the Nucla Town Park is today
Anna was a member of the Second Park Sewing Club. She made lap robes for senior citizens in the west end of Montrose County who were in nursing homes located in Delta. GrandJunction and Montrose. Anna made 2,000 to 3,000 lap robes and also made them for the Nucla-Naturita Fire Department. She enjoyed painting roses on her quilts and also enjoyed fishing.
Anna May Karo is survived by her children; Ron Karo and wife, Jodi, and Ken Karo and wife, Joan all of Nucla; Alf Karo of Pensacola, Florida; Norm Karo and wife, Barbara, of Fallon, Nevada; Roy Karo and wife Cathy , of Craig, Colorado; and Sandy Bronson and husband , Richard, of Lees Summit, Missouri; 23 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ed; a daughter, Matilda Ann; eight sisters and three brothers .
Cortez Four Corners Funeral Chapel, Hale & Gerken is serving the family.
