- Julia "Judy" Ann Johnson, 84, Velva, ND passed away Sunday, April 5, 2020, at Trinity Hospital in Minot.
Judy was born on June 6, 1935, in Rugby, ND, the daughter of Joseph and Margaret (Jundt) Schiff. She was the 7th of 13 children. She was raised and educated in Rugby through 4th grade when the family moved to Ruso, ND in 1946. She attended school in Ruso from 5th to 8th grade. She went to Sacred Heart Academy in Minot, ND for high school and graduated in 1954.
Judy was united in marriage to Marvin W. Johnson on June 6, 1956, at St. Cecilias Catholic Church in Velva, ND. The couple made their home on the Johnson family farm near Ruso, where they raised their 6 children. They operated a dairy business and raised small grains and beef cattle until their retirement. When Marvin and Judy retired from farming in 2004, they enjoyed traveling, going on many bus and train trips, and seeing their children and grandchildren. They also took pride in their yard together, which was the picture of a park. Judy enjoyed taking her golf cart around the farm showing neighbors and friends the yard and the many flowers that she grew every year.
Judy was blessed with the gift of music. She never read music, but mastered the accordion, guitar, organ, and piano. Many people also enjoyed listening to her play piano when she was a resident at the Velva Care Center. We will always have her music in our hearts. She was a social butterfly and was constantly going to auction sales, eating out, and visiting with friends and family. She always went out in style with a hat to wear for every occasion! We are grateful she took pictures as a hobby because they are treasured memories and well be blessed with them for years to come. In 2015, she moved to Souris Valley Assisted Living. She later became a resident at the Care Center where she was known as the lady with the beautiful smile.
Judy is survived by her children: David (Cindy) Johnson, Casselton, ND; Janice (Myron) Dinga, Riverside, CA; Paul (Terri) Johnson, Jamestown, ND; John (Shelley) Johnson, Owatonna, MN; Kathryn (Scott) Bauer, Velva, ND; and Chris (Nick) Casalo, Valley Stream, NY; 19 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, 3 brothers, 3 sisters, and numerous nieces and nephews.
While we mourn her death, she is now reunited with her husband, Marvin; her parents, 4 brothers, and 2 sisters.
