- Emma M. Thorsrud, age 86, a former resident of Sacred Heart, Minn. died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000, at Parkview Nursing Home in Belview, Minn.
Emma was born on June 23, 1904, to Nels and Annie (Thorson) Jacobson in Swede Forest Township, Redwood County, Minnesota. She grew up in rural Belview and was baptized and confirmed at Rock Dell Lutheran Church in rural Belview. She attended rural country school. Emma worked as a caregiver and housekeeper for various families in the Twin Cities following her schooling. She was united in marriage to Millard Thorsrud on Jan. 25, 1942, in Minneapolis. Following their marriage they moved to begin farming south of Sacred Heart. Due to the ill health of her husband, Emma helped with the farming responsibilities. They retired and moved into Sacred Heart in the mid 1960s. Her husband, Millard, died in 1975. Following his death, Emma moved to Richfield in 1976, where she resided until moving to Belview in 1995. She was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church and its circle. She enjoyed sewing, was an excellent cook and was fond of traveling in her later years, especially to the Holy Land and Norway.
She is survived by nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Millard, seven brothers and three sisters.
Pallbearers were Scott Pederson, Paul Jacobson, Heidi Oscarson, Jon Busack, Steve Busack and Jim Samuelson.
Funeral services were held on Monday, Dec. 11, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Sacred Heart with the Rev. John Hopper officiating. Music was provided by organist Marjorie Sunvold and vocalist, Sam Dahlager. Burial will take place at the church cemetery.
