- Thomas Arthur Benson was born in Superior, Wisconsin, on February 20, 1938. He died on September 29, 2022, at the age of 84.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Lillian Benson; brothers, Robert and John Benson; granddaughter Courtney Adkins; and other relatives.
He is survived by his wife, four children, ten grandchildren, a great-granddaughter, a sister-in-law, many nieces and nephews; and many in-laws on his wife's side of the family.
Tom grew up in Superior, Wisconsin, and he was confirmed at Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Superior. He graduated from Superior East High School in 1956, from the University of Minnesota in 1960, and from Luther Theological Seminary in 1964.
He met his future wife in 1961 at Central Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, and they were married on May 26, 1962, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Ishpeming, Michigan. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in May 2022 with a wonderful family gathering. Tom served in multiple pastoral calls, including an internship in Seattle, Washington; clinical pastoral education at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Illinois; and as a parish pastor at United Lutheran Church in Zumbrota, Minnesota, and at Advent Lutheran Church in Coon Rapids, Minnesota. He also worked as a personal and family tax accountant, a business advisor for his wife's small plant business, and an independent distribution contractor until retirement. Tom enjoyed many hobbies and activities over the years, including playing and watching sports, traveling, attending his grandchildren's events, and hearing beautiful organ music at several Twin Cities churches. Tom was devoted to God, his wife and family, and his greatest joy came from time spent together with his family.
Funeral service to be held Friday, October 7th at 2PM, with visitation one hour prior at the Washburn-McReavy Hillside Chapel.
