Obituary from unknown Shelly newspaper:
Mrs. J. E. Duden Laid to Rest
The funeral of Mrs. J. E. Duden was held Wednesday from Augustana Church, Rev. Akre of Shelly and Rev. Houkom officiating. The church was beautifully decorated in natural flowers, the gift of the cousins of the deceased, and a profusion of floral tributes testified to the esteem of friends and neighbors. The services were very impressive and the funeral sermon was one of great beauty. All the brothers and sisters of Mrs. Duden were present with the exception of Anton, of Dallas, Texas.
Clara Serum was born on the Serum farm near Halstad and grew to beautiful young womanhood here. About nine years ago she went West and three years ago was married to Mr. Duden. She had been in delicate health for some time, but the direct cause of her death was influenza, to which she succumbed in San Diego, Cal. Her life was one of singular sweetness and her memory will be held dear by all who knew her. She is survived by her husband, her father, three sisters and three brothers, for all of whom the greatest sympathy is felt.
