- Robert G. "Bob" Todahl Sr., 73, of Eleva died unexpectedly Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2009, at Luther Hospital in Eau Claire.
Bob was born Feb. 22, 1936, to Hjelmer and Selma (Semingson) Todahl in Eleva. Bob enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1953, serving for 20 years, retiring as a technical sergeant. He married his high school sweetheart, Elaine "Connie" Klopp, Oct. 26, 1957, at Fort Snelling Chapel in Minneapolis. Bob and Connie traveled the world as a military family, and they had four children along the way. In 1973 they moved permanently to Eleva, where Bob worked the next 19 years for the village of Eleva. Bob was a member of Eleva Lutheran Church, an active member of Buffalo River Masonic Lodge 252, The Scottish Rite of Eau Claire, Zor Shrine, American Legion Post 459 and VFW Post 6012 of San Antonio.
Bob enjoyed spending summers on Lake Holcombe with his fishing buddy, Bob Giencke, searching for the elusive crappie. Bob also enjoyed his morning coffee with the boys and "culture trips." Bob was a proud grandpa and enjoyed watching his three grandsons grow.
He is survived by Connie, his wife of 52 years; daughters, Tamie Brantner of Eleva, Kim (Charlie) Brantner of Racine and Cari (Tay) Taylor of Warrens; son, Robert (Erica) Todahl Jr. of Strum; three grandsons, Christopher (Katie) Emerson of Minneapolis, Dillon Todahl of Eleva and Gabriel Todahl of Strum; three granddaughters, Stacy (Donny) Johnstone of Racine, Kristy (Laith) Gilbertson of La Crosse and Becky (Jamie) Hartley of Racine; four great-grandchildren; one beloved sister, Viola (Bruce) Berg of Eau Claire; two sisters-in-law, Corinne Todahl of Eleva and Jean Todahl of Eleva; three brothers-in-law, Ron Petersen of Eleva, LaVern (Betty) Klopp of Belvidere, Ill., and Bob (Pat) Steiner of Mondovi; and many nieces, nephews and family friends.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Michael Emerson; his parents; two brothers, Orville "Swede" Todahl and LaVerne "Butch" Todahl; and one sister, Helen Butler.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today (Friday, Sept. 25, 2009) at Kjentvet-Smith Funeral Home, Eleva, and for one hour before the service Saturday at the church.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009, at Eleva Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Kermit Solem officiating. Burial will be at Eleva Cemetery, with military rites conducted by American Legion Post 459.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Shriners Hospital for Children in Minneapolis or to a charity of your choice.
