- Son of Karl & Nicoline (Thronaes) Lossius
The editor of The Sentinel was in receipt last night of a telegram announcing the death in Denver of Rudolph Lossius, well known in this city and for the past several years editor of the North Fork Times at Hotchkiss.
The telegram gave no particulars of his death, but asked for some information in regard to him. It is only a few days ago that he wrote to the editor of this paper asking that announcement be made in The Sentinel of the rates for the meeting of the Old Veterans association of the Western slope at Hotchkiss today and tomorrow. He said then in that letter that he would be in Grand Junction today, en-route to his home at Hotchkiss.
The deceased has a wide circle of acquaintances among Colorado people. When he first arrived in this city six or seven years ago he devoted his time entirely to the insurance business. He made this city his headquarters, mainly at the Brunswick hotel and went from here to various points in the San Juan and on the line of the broad guage[sic] of the Rio Grande. He was of a very genial disposition and made many friends.
Rudolph Lossius was a very large man, reaching probably a heighth[sic] of six feet four or five inches. Upon the question of his heighth[sic] he was very tender and seemed to beleive[sic] that it made him an object of curiosity. He was quite a good writer and had built up the North Fork Times to be quite a paper, having a wide circle of influence. He established that paper several years ago with Charles E. Woods, a brother-in-law of Mr. Frank Leslie, of this city and afterwards purchased the entire interest.
Very lately he erected a commodious building for the home of the Times at Hotchkiss and prosperity seemed to be right in front of him. The deceased has a large circle of warm friends in this city who will hear of his death with regret. No particulars could be obtained today, although a dispatch was sent to Denver for them. He had been suffering lately with stomach trouble and this may have been one of the causes of his death. It is known that his death occurred at St. Luke's hospital.

The sweetheart of Rudolph Lossius, the deceased Hotchkiss newspaper man, failed to make herself known at the funeral, which was held yesterday afternoon from Martin's undertaking parlors. There were only a few friends of the late editor present and among them none who knew the young woman who was said to have been pledged as his wife to be in December. The bank of Hotchkiss, owners of the North Fork Times, of which Mr. Lossius was editor for three years past, telegraphed instructions for the funeral. Interment was at Fairmount--Rocky Mountain News
