- Oswald Peterson 1897-1993
Oswald P. Peterson, 95, of Bagley, died Monday, March 8, 1993, at the North Country Regional Hospital in Bemidji.
Oswald was born March 28, 1897, at Minneapolis to Jacob and Jensine Peterson. He came with his family in 1902 and homesteaded south of Bagley where he grew up and attended school. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I. He married Magnhild Kvande, October 24, 1936, in Bagley. He lived and farmed in Nora Township in Clearwater County for 65 years. He retired from farming in 1962. He then worked as Seaman/Fireman on the boats on the Great Lakes for 10 years.
He was a charter member of the Grace Lutheran Church. He served as a trustee on the board of Deacons. He served as president of the church as well as a Sunday school teacher for a few years. They moved to Bemidji in 1975 after retirement and made their home there. He later joined Bethany Free Church in Bemidji. He was a member of the Irvin Blix American Legion Post #16 in Bagley.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Orville of Bemidji, and David of Minneapolis; a daughter, Marlene (Mrs. Richard) Goldman of Grand Rapids, Minnesota; nine grandchildren; one great grandson; three sisters, Aleda Henniger of Minneapolis, Cora Johnson of Eveleth and Marie Hill of Bagley.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Ruth Halverson, Margaret Clogston and Julie Tufford.
His funeral was Saturday, March 13, at the Grace Lutheran Church, Bagley, with the Rev. Lyle Twite officiating. Interment was in the Bagley City Cemetery. Arrangements were with the Cease Funeral Home, Bagley.
