Elmer C. Forseth
World War II veteran, 84
Elmer C. Forseth, 84, of Astoria, died Thursday, Sept. 3, 2009, in Astoria.
He was born July 10, 1925, in Astoria, to Lloyd and Marna Grotting Forseth.
He joined the U.S. Navy in 1943, and served on the aircraft carrier USS Sargent Bay until his discharge in April 1946.
In September of 1946, he married Florine Henningsen. She survives, residing in Astoria.
Mr. Forseth worked at Hauke's Sentry Market as a meatcutter for 34 years, retiring in 1987.
He was a member of the Clatsop Post 12 American Legion for 40 years. He was also a life-long member of First Lutheran Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Bonnie Forseth of Tustin, Calif., and Julie and Don Durr of Tillamook; a daughter-in-law, Sandy Forseth of Rocklin, Calif.; three grandchildren, Renee Fitter of Doylestown, Pa., and Kevin Durr and Jodi Christensen and her husband, Allen, all of Tillamook; two great-granddaughters, Jade Dunn and Jasmyn Christensen of Tillamook; and a sister, Dorothy Meyer of Astoria.
He was preceded in death by a son, Rich Forseth, in 2007.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Greenwood Cemetery, 91569 Highway 202 in Astoria.
Memorial contributions may be given to First Lutheran Church, Lower Columbia Hospice or a charity of one's choice, in care of Caldwell's Luce-Layton Mortuary, 1165 Franklin Ave., Astoria, OR 97103.
