- Our beloved Dad, grandpa, great-grandpa, brother and uncle, Cecil Edward Murphy, was taken home by angels on July 16, 2017.
He was born on December 10, 1930 to Wilbur and Daska Murphy in Roundup, Montana.
When he was about eight months old, this family moved to Poulsbo, Washington, where he attended Kitsap schools. At 17, he joined the United States Air Force and served his country for four years.
In 1953 he went to Sitka, Alaska where he met and married Avis Pederson in 1955. In the next few years, he was blessed with three daughters. In 1957, he got in on the Alaska Veterans Act and received property on Sawmill Creek Road where he raised his family before retiring from Alaska Lumber and Pulp in 1986 and moving his family to Anacortes, Washington.
In 1995, he married Francis Fisher.
He loved road trips, playing pool and cribbage as well as his gardening. He loved fishing, hunting, crabbing and clam digging. He was also very environmentally conscious and loved all animals.
But most of all, he loved his daughters and his family, including his cat.
He was generous to a fault. Always helping the less fortunate even when he was less fortunate.
We always had animals, from dogs to ducks, to cats and rabbits.
In the early 70's he built the only residential Round House in Sitka because he wanted to be different. One of his greatest joys was making his famous smoked salmon for his family and friends.
He was very social and attended a lot of social events, such as family reunions, family events, school reunions, the Sitka picnic and more. There is so much more we could say about our dad because we have so many years of memories. We are so grateful to have had him as long as we did.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Francis; his brother Lawrence; his sister Norriene and brother-in-law George Mathis.
He is survived by his loving daughters: Robin Records (Kenny), Shelby Borden (Greg) and Tally Allison (Steve); his five grandchildren: Tarra Pointer, Shantel Erickson, Kassie Meyer (JR), Dylan Borden (Ariel), Cody Wichmann (Alina); his eight great-grandchildren; his brothers: Donald Paulsen, Dale Paulsen and David Paulsen (Jill); his niece Marcy Mathis and many more nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, as well as his cat Mittsy.
In lieu of flowers, you may donate to his favorite charity: The Audubon Society.
Celebration of his life will be held at the family residence: 2217 Vista Lane, Anacortes on Saturday, July 22, 2017 from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m.
Arrangements are in the care of Evans Funeral Chapel of Anacortes, WA.
