- Severt Kvande 1918-2007
Severt Kvande, 89, loving father and grandfather, left his earthly home and into the arms of is heavenly father on Sunday, May 20, 2007 at the VA Hospital in Fargo, North Dakota.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 23, at 1 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, Bagley, with John Omans and Mardy Schermerhorn officiating. Interment will be at Bagley City Cemetery.
Severt was born on April 8, 1918 at Orland, Norway, the son of Johan and Jona Kvande. The family immigrated to the United States in the 1920's, settling in Godahl, Minnesota and later moving to Bagley.
He entered the United States Army, serving during WWII as a sergeant. He served in the ski patrol, and because he spoke fluent Norwegian, he was able to meet with the King of Norway and had dinner with him. He was honorably discharged in 1945. He worked in teh Great Lakes for many years, retiring in the early 1970's.
He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church of Bagley, where he served as a former deacon. He was a collector of coins, rocks, bottles, buttons, marbles and other items. He enjoyed going to auction sales. He was the first person in Clearwater County to register a deer taken with a bow and arrow.
He is survived by his daughters, Joan (Alvin) Brusewitz of Moses Lake, Washington, Kae (Wayne) Olsen of Bemidji, Sue Shegrus of Bagley, and Beverly (Bruce) Lindgren of Bagley; son, Gary(Charlene) Kvande of Bemidji; sister Sally Gunning of Bagley; brother, Oscar Kvande of Clearbrook; 23 grandchildren and 57 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Crystal; three grandsons; one great-grandson; two brothers Carl and Harold and two sisters, Magnild and Jennie.
The Cease Family Funeral Home of Bagley assisted the family with arrangements.
