Enlisted: February 3, 1862 as a Private from Emmet County, IA
Wounded: December 31, 1862 at Stones River, TN
Mustered Out: February 10, 1865 at Chattanooga, TN
Died: October 17, 1880 ?/or January 8, 1885
Buried: Gjerpen Lutheran Cemetery, Cato Twp, WI
Gravesite: "Sever Larsen Co. K 15 Wis. Inf."

Born: "Syver Larsen Hovie" on 18 Sep 1828 in Østre Slidre, Oppland, Norway,
son of Lars Syversen Hovie and Kari Aslaksdatter.
He was married on 9 Apr 1849 to Seborg Evensdatter Rudi (1822-1885).
He and his new wife came to America on "Lyna", which sailed from Drammen, Buskerud, 8 Jun 1849
and arrived in New York on 11 or 14 Aug. 1849.
They came to Manitowoc County, Wisconsin, and by 1860, they had moved to Buchanan Township, Manitowoc County.
Civil War:
Enlisted for three years on 3 Feb 1862 in Emmet County, Iowa, and mustered at Madison, Wisconsin, 11 Feb 1862.
Private. Sick in hospital in Iuka, Mississippi, in August 1862.
Was on Military Police duty 27 Oct 1862.
Wounded at Stone's River, Tennessee, 31 Dec 1862, and sent to hospital in Nashville, Tennessee.
Sick in Winchester, Tennessee, in August 1863 and in Loudon, Tennessee, 13 Apr 1864.
Mustered out with Company K at Chattanooga, Tennessee, on 10 Feb 1865.
Post war: Died of consumption 8 Jan 1885 in Emmet County.
Buried in Wallingford Lutheran Cemetery in Emmet County.
