GOODWIN -Edna Goodwin, of Delisle, passed away in the early hours of February 21, just days before her 101st birthday. Edna Marie Arntsen was born on February 26, 1906 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the oldest of five children, to John and Rhoda Arntsen. In 1911, her family moved to the Beechy area to farm and a young Edna attended the Jonesville Country School. As a young woman, she was employed as a housekeeper and a switchboard operator. On November 29, 1927, she married Wilmer Goodwin, a pharmacist and hockey player from Birsay. The couple lived in several communities in Saskatchewan, including Beechy, Sintaluta, Abernethy, Prelate, and Balcarres. In 1947, the family, which now included ten children, moved to Delisle where Wilmer owned a pharmacy and Edna at first operated the attached lunch bar and then assisted in the drug store. Edna was famous for her Sunday family dinners where the kitchen was never too crowded to add one more setting to the table. She loved listening to music, playing bridge, but most of all watching or listening to sports. Through almost 65 years of marriage, Wilmer and Edna became devoted fans of their children's and then their grandchildren's exploits, whether it be in hockey, softball, or curling. It was not unusual to walk into their home and find Hockey Night in Canada on the tv, and a Blades game on the radio at the same time. Edna was a life long member of the United Church of Canada and was active in the UCW and the Rebecca Lodge. For the past few years Edna resided, firstly at a private care home, and then Extendicare in Saskatoon. Edna was predeceased by her husband, Wilmer; her son, Byron; her grandson, Dan Hill; her granddaughter, Robin Goodwin; and her son-in-law, George Gordon. Her parents and two of her brothers, Charlie and Lowell Arntsen, also predeceased her. Edna will be loved and remembered by her children and their spouses: Lavona Gordon of Trail, BC, Leverne and June Goodwin of Dauphin, Manitoba, Pearl and Fred Avery of Cochin, Saskatchewan, Arlo and Sally Goodwin of Garibaldi, Oregon, John Goodwin of Lima, Ohio, Charlie and Judy Goodwin of Spokane, Washington, Beatrice and Syd Hill of Delisle, Art and Sandra Goodwin of Saskatoon, and Gloria and Lynn Bentley of Delisle. She will also be sadly missed by twenty-nine grandchildren and fifty great grandchildren. Edna is also survived by her sister, Beatrice McCord of Calgary; her brother and sister-in-law, Danny and Joan Arntsen of Delisle; her daugher-in-law, Shirley Goodwin of Edmonton; her sister-in-law, Emma Arntsen of Dinsmore; her very dear friend, Shirley Halldorson of Delisle; and many nieces and nephews.
